Parkview Community Hospital is pleased to announce this new program
for patients with serious illnesses including, but not limited to, heart and
lung disease and cancer. Palliative Care may be offered when a patient’s
course of care shifts from finding a cure to relieving pain and easing symptoms.
The Comfort Zone will be open in May 2005, and
is a designated patient wing designed to address the special needs of these
seriously ill patients. The focus is on improving the patient’s quality
of life and, providing emotional support services for patients and family members.
The Comfort Zone is designed with a home-like décor to provide a warm,
comforting atmosphere. Our staffs have been specially trained and include nurses,
nurse’s aids, social workers and dietitians.
The Palliative Care Team is a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses,
social workers, dieticians and a chaplain who are available to provide consultative
services to patients and family members throughout the hospital. This team is
available to help patients and families in coordinating discharge services and
to assist with challenging treatment choices. For more information on the Palliative
