GROWTH

Growth, Improvement and Community Involvement Continue at Parkview

Growth and community involvement will continue to be prominent themes at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center with 43 years of service to the Riverside community.

Founded by a group of local physicians who were passionate about serving the city’s expanding population, Parkview’s original 50-bed hospital opened on November 3, 1958. Over the years, Parkview has expanded to 193 beds, but the real growth has been in the number of services Parkview offers the community and in the quality of those services.

TEEN PREGNANCY PROGRAM

Riverside is considered one of the "hot spots" of teen pregnancy in the nation. Because of our commitment to the community, Parkview’s staff works in conjunction with teachers and the California Alliance Concerned with School Age Parenting and Pregnancy Prevention to supplement local schools in their teen pregnancy prevention and support efforts. This partnership is supported by grant funds received from the State of California Department of Health Services Office of Community Challenge Grants.

A ten-week series of classes covering pregnancy, birth and parenting are given to pregnant and parenting teens. Often these classes are the only childbirth preparation taken. The basics of baby care are also taught with classes in CPR and First Aid. Teen parents learn to recognize when their baby is ill and appropriate actions to deal with that illness.

In our mission to be a part of teen pregnancy prevention, a two session class is presented in health education classes throughout the local high schools about the realities of teen pregnancy and birth in hopes that it will help in the effort to reduce teen pregnancy. This series has been enthusiastically received by both teachers and students as being "very eye opening and informative."
